Allyson Mellberg Taylor
I am an artist and professor living and working in Virginia. My work mostly consists of drawings, prints, and soft sculptures with some egg tempera painting and ceramics now and then. I often collaborate with my husband Jeremy Taylor. We are both members of the North Carolina Gallery Collaborative Team Lump. I am also represented by Cinders Gallery in Brooklyn. One thing that is consistent in the work that we make is that we always use non-toxic paints, inks, glues, and we try to use as many recycled materials as possible (90% of the fabric we use is recycled).

OWLY SHADOW PUPPETS
I make these puppets in my little workspace, where I have a small laser-cutter. The puppets are cut from heavy matboard, and so are sturdy enough for supervised play with children. Or adults. All my designs are original, the puppet characters are from my own drawings.
Drawings inspired by imaginary stories…
1. Watching people smile
3. Making paper boats out of sweet wrappers

Giant Dwarf began in 2003, with a passion for reconstructing recycled fabrics + an unexplainable desire to create with color. After a cross-country move in 2005, the company began to grow + reinvent itself as more than a hobby.
Giant Dwarf has now become an integral part of the indie craft scene, participating in over 30 craft fairs, including a self-curated show at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in Philadelphia.
